How to plan a product launch on social media
4 August 2026 · 6 min read
The mistake most businesses make with a launch is treating it as a single announcement post. They go quiet, post 'It's here!' on the day, and wonder why the response is flat. A launch isn't a moment — it's a campaign that builds before the day and continues after it.
Here's a simple three-phase structure you can run for any product, service or offer.
Phase 1: Tease (the 1–2 weeks before)
Before you launch, build anticipation. You don't reveal everything — you create curiosity and let your audience know something's coming. This warms people up so that launch day lands on an audience that's already leaning in, rather than a cold scroll.
- Hint at the problem your new product solves, without naming it yet.
- Show glimpses — a detail, a work-in-progress shot, a countdown.
- Invite people to a waitlist or to turn on notifications, so you can reach them directly on the day.
Phase 2: Launch (the day and the days around it)
Now you reveal it — clearly and more than once. Not everyone sees your first post, so plan several launch-window posts that each come at it from a different angle rather than repeating the same one.
- The reveal: what it is, who it's for, and the single biggest benefit.
- The story: why you made it, or the problem it solves — people buy the why.
- The proof: an early review, a demo, or a first result.
- The nudge: any launch offer or deadline, stated plainly, with a clear call to action.
Phase 3: Sustain (the weeks after)
The launch buzz fades in days, but the selling shouldn't. Keep the momentum with content that answers objections and keeps the product visible: customer results, FAQs, use cases, and behind-the-scenes of people receiving it. This is where a lot of the actual sales happen — after the excitement, when the hesitant have seen enough proof.
Plan it all up front
The reason launches fizzle is that they're improvised day by day, and the busiest possible week to be improvising is launch week. Map every post across all three phases before you start, and schedule as much as you can in advance — so on the day you're serving customers, not scrambling for a caption.
