How to make AI social media captions sound like your brand, not a robot

7 September 2026 · 6 min read

AI can write a social caption in seconds. The problem is that most AI captions read like… AI. Generic enthusiasm, three emojis, a 'Let's dive in!' — the same voice every brand using the same tool ends up with. So you rewrite it, which defeats the point.

The fix isn't a better prompt each time. It's teaching the AI your brand once, so everything it writes starts on-brand. Here's how.

Why generic AI sounds generic

An AI with no context about your brand falls back to the average of everything it's seen — which is bland, safe and interchangeable. It doesn't know who you're talking to, how you talk, or the things you'd never say. Give it that context and the output changes completely.

What 'brand voice' actually means

Brand voice is the consistent personality behind everything you publish. It breaks down into a few concrete things you can actually write down:

  • Audience — who you're talking to, and what they care about.
  • Tone — playful, authoritative, warm, blunt? Pick a few words and stick to them.
  • Pillars — the themes you post about, so the AI stays on-topic.
  • Forbidden words — the clichés and phrases that would instantly break the voice.
  • Examples — a handful of posts that sound exactly right, to anchor the rest.

How to teach an AI your voice

  1. 1Write the five things above down once — not per post, once.
  2. 2Feed them to the AI as standing context, not a one-off prompt.
  3. 3Generate a few captions and correct what's off — 'less formal', 'drop the emoji', 'we'd never say synergy'.
  4. 4Save those corrections back into the voice, so the next batch is closer.

The goal is a system where the AI's first draft is 90% right, so editing is a quick polish rather than a rewrite. That's the difference between AI that saves time and AI that just moves the work around.

A quick editing checklist

  • Read it aloud — if you wouldn't say it, your brand wouldn't post it.
  • Cut the throat-clearing — AI loves a warm-up sentence; delete it.
  • Check the specifics — swap generic claims for the real detail only you know.

The built-in way

This is the whole idea behind Optimate's brand kits: you set your audience, tone, pillars and forbidden words once, and every caption and image is generated against them — in your voice, per brand, so it needs barely any editing. Try it free — 14-day Pro trial, no card.
