How to make on-brand social media graphics without a designer
6 August 2026 · 5 min read
Great captions get you halfway. The other half is how your posts look — and for most small businesses, the visuals are where consistency falls apart. One post uses one font, the next uses another, the colours drift, and the logo is there sometimes and not others. It reads as amateur even when the writing is good.
The fix isn't hiring a designer or learning Photoshop. It's a small set of rules and a way to apply them fast.
Consistency is the whole game
People recognise a brand before they read it — by colour, shape and layout. A feed where every graphic shares the same palette, the same font and the same logo placement looks intentional and trustworthy. A feed of mismatched one-offs looks like nobody's in charge. You don't need beautiful; you need consistent.
Write your visual rules down
You can define a usable brand look in five lines:
- Two or three brand colours — a primary, a secondary, and one accent.
- One heading font and one body font — no more.
- A fixed logo placement — same corner, same size, every time.
- Plenty of breathing room — crowded graphics read as cheap; white space reads as premium.
- Enough contrast to be legible — dark text on light, or light on dark, never mid-grey on mid-colour.
The trap with AI image tools
AI image generators are tempting, but they have a specific weakness: they can't reliably render text or your logo. Ask one to put your brand name on a graphic and it'll invent letterforms, get the colours wrong, and occasionally spell something you never typed. For anything with words or a logo on it, you want the text and the mark placed exactly — not redrawn from scratch each time.
The reliable approach
For text-led posts — a quote, a stat, a tip, an offer — the dependable method is a template: your exact colours and fonts, your real logo composited in, and the text set precisely. Same input, same output, every time. That's what keeps a feed coherent, and it's faster than fiddling with a design tool per post.
