How to write a social media bio that converts
26 August 2026 · 5 min read
Your bio is the most valuable few lines you'll write on social media — it's the first thing a potential follower or customer reads, and often the only thing. Yet most bios waste it on a vague job title and an emoji. Here's how to write one that actually works.
Say who you help and how
The single most important job of a bio is to make a stranger think 'this is for me' in a second. Lead with who you serve and what you do for them — 'Helping local cafés fill tables with better social media' beats 'Coffee lover ☕ | Marketer | Dog mum' every time.
Give a reason to follow
Tell people what they'll get by following — tips, deals, inspiration, behind-the-scenes. A follow is a small decision, and a clear 'here's what you'll get' tips it your way.
End with a call to action and a link
Your bio is one of the only clickable spots on most platforms — don't waste it. Point the link somewhere genuinely useful and add a short prompt ('Book here', 'Get the free guide') so people know why to click.
Keep it scannable
- Front-load the important words — bios get truncated and skimmed.
- Use line breaks or separators so it's not a wall of text.
- Cut the filler adjectives; every word should earn its place.
