Tracking competitors

Follow the accounts you measure yourself against, see their numbers beside yours, and let them shape your recommendations.

Competitors lists the businesses or creators you compare yourself with. Optimate reads what each one publishes and how often, from their website and from their Instagram account (and YouTube, where Optimate can read channels), and shows it next to your own numbers under You vs them.

To add a competitor

  1. Open Competitors and press Add competitor.
  2. Pick the platform, then type their handle and their name. Add their website too: for Facebook, TikTok, X and LinkedIn it is the only thing Optimate can read, because those platforms don't let apps read someone else's account (and for YouTube too, where Optimate can't read channels).
  3. An Instagram competitor is read through your own connected Instagram, so connect yours first.
  4. Add your own take if you like (what they do well, what they miss, who they reach), then save.

Optimate never guesses a number: anything it couldn't read is left out rather than shown as a zero. It can't see anything private. Re-read on a competitor reads it again, and Edit or Remove changes or deletes it. If you manage several clients, each client has its own list.

What you add here feeds Recommendations, so the strategies Optimate builds take your competitors into account.

Frequently asked

Which plans include competitor tracking?

Pro and up, and the free trial. On Free the page is locked, but the competitors you added are kept and come back when you subscribe.

Can I see a competitor's analytics?

Only what is public: what they post, how often, and on Instagram (and YouTube, where Optimate can read channels) their follower count (on Instagram, also the likes and comments a typical post gets). Reach and impressions belong to their account and aren't shared with anyone else.
