Scheduling & publishing

Posting from your blog, and cross-posting from Instagram

Turn each new blog article into a post, or copy what you post on Instagram to your other accounts, and why a post might be held or not appear.

Two automations post for you once they are set up. Both live in Settings → Automations, are part of Pro and above and the free trial, and only ever act on what you publish after you set them up: nothing already on your blog or your Instagram profile is posted.

Post from your blog

  • Add your blog or news feed (RSS) and choose the platforms. Each time you publish an article, Optimate writes an on-brand post about it, with the link.
  • Each post is written by AI and uses 2 AI credits, the same as writing any caption.
  • Choose whether each post is saved to Drafts for you to review, or posted automatically 30 minutes later.
  • If your AI credits are used up, the article still arrives in Drafts with a simple caption to finish yourself. It is never posted automatically.
  • Posts use the article's featured image. Instagram and Pinterest need one, so an article without an image skips them.

Post once on Instagram, appear everywhere

  • Add a rule, choose the networks, and choose when the copies go out: straight away, after 30 minutes, after 2 hours or after a day. When you then post from the Instagram app, Optimate schedules the same photo and caption to those networks.
  • It costs no AI credits: the caption is copied, not rewritten.
  • Photo and carousel posts are copied. Videos and Reels aren't handled yet.
  • Optimate checks Instagram every 20 minutes and only copies posts up to 48 hours old, so a post made while the rule couldn't run (for example while Instagram needed reconnecting) and older than that is never copied.
  • Unless the rule sends straight away, the copies wait in your Planner first, so you can edit or delete one before it goes out.

Why a post was held as a draft

  • Either automation saves a post to Drafts, with a note saying why, instead of scheduling it. For example: when the caption has one of the words to avoid on your Brand page, when the client has more than one account or Page on a platform and none was chosen, when your scheduled queue is full, or when a copy can't be made to fit X or Mastodon, or has a phone number Google Business would reject.
  • Open the draft, fix what the note names, then schedule it.
  • If you use client approval, posts from both automations wait for sign-off like anything else.

Why something wasn't posted

  • The Instagram account the rule copies from needs reconnecting. Check its card in Settings → Connections.
  • A destination has been disconnected since the rule was made. The rule names it in amber.
  • A blog feed shows Paused, with the reason, when your plan no longer includes it, when its client is paused on your plan, or when no platform is chosen. Once the reason is fixed it posts new articles again; ones published while it was paused aren't posted.
  • A copied caption too long for a platform has its hashtags dropped first. If it still doesn't fit, it isn't sent to that platform as it is.

Pause or stop

Each feed and each rule has its own switch in Settings → Automations: switch it off to pause, and on again to carry on. Delete it to stop for good. Posts it has already scheduled stay in your queue, so cancel any you no longer want from Scheduled Posts.

Frequently asked

Does every blog article cost AI credits?

Yes, 2 credits for each article that gets an AI-written post. An article that arrives with a simple caption because your credits ran out costs nothing.

Will my old blog articles or Instagram posts be posted?

No. Only articles and Instagram posts published after you add the feed or the rule.
