What size is an Instagram post?
1080 × 1350 px (4:5 portrait) takes the most room in the feed. 1080 × 1080 px (square) also works. Since 2025 the profile grid shows posts at 3:4, so keep anything important away from the top and bottom edges.
What is the best image size for every platform at once?
There isn't one. A square 1080 × 1080 px image is accepted almost everywhere, but it wastes space on Instagram and Threads (4:5), is cropped on X, Bluesky and Mastodon (16:9) and is too short for Pinterest (2:3). Optimate makes a version in each platform's own shape.
What size should a story or Reel be?
1080 × 1920 px (9:16) for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube Shorts. Keep words out of the top and bottom edges, where each app draws its own buttons.
Do these sizes change?
From time to time. The shapes (4:5, 1:1, 9:16, 16:9, 2:3) have held for years; the exact pixels matter less than the shape, as long as the image is at least as large as listed.
Want every post in the right size, automatically?
Optimate makes on-brand pictures in each platform's own shape and schedules them across every platform. No card needed.
