Best X (Twitter) scheduling tools

X rewards posting often, and it is the network where a busy week most easily means silence. X also charges apps for every post they publish, so tools differ more on X than anywhere else: some cap it, some bill it separately, some leave it off their cheaper plans. This list says which fits which job.

Who wrote this

Optimate publishes this page, so treat it as a vendor's list rather than an independent review. We've tried to earn the read by ranking on fit rather than on who's paying for the page — Optimate isn't first on every list here, and where a competitor is the better answer we say so and link you to them.

How this list is ordered

Ranked on X specifically: scheduling posts and images ahead, help writing for X, reaching your other networks from the same calendar, how X is charged, and price for one to five accounts. Prices are from each vendor's published pricing; tools we haven't verified get positioning only. Which networks a tool reaches changes as platforms open and close their APIs, so confirm it on the tool's own site before you pay.

Pricing checked between 25 August and 9 September 2026. Tools without a figure are ones we haven’t verified directly — check their site rather than trust a number we didn’t read ourselves.

  1. Number 1: Optimate

    Free plan · Pro £29/mo · Studio £59/mo · Agency £135/mo

Best for: X as one channel among several, with X posts included on every paid plan

Schedules X posts with images or a video on the same calendar as LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, Threads, Google Business, Bluesky and Mastodon, counting the 280-character limit X's way, with every link as 23. X is one of your included accounts: 30 X posts a month on Pro, 60 on Studio and 100 on Agency. The Free plan doesn't post to X. From Pro, comments on your X posts come into one Inbox.

  2. Number 2: Buffer

    Free plan · from $5/channel/mo

Best for: A simple X queue beside a few other networks

A reliable queue with per-channel pricing and a free plan to start on. Light on writing help, but the easiest way to schedule X alongside a couple of other networks.

  3. Number 3: Typefully

Best for: X is the whole job, for one person's account

Built around writing and scheduling threads, with a clean editor and analytics for growing a personal account. A writing specialist; it doesn't post to visual networks such as Instagram or TikTok.

  4. Number 4: FeedHive

Best for: Text-led posting on X and LinkedIn, with recycling

Focused on writing, recycling and conditional posting, and popular for text-led networks like X and LinkedIn. Lighter on the visual networks.

  5. Number 5: Hootsuite

    From $99/user/mo billed annually

Best for: Large teams posting to X for one company, with approvals and governance

The long-standing enterprise suite, with approval chains, listening and audit trails for teams that post on a company's behalf. Priced per user, with no free plan.

  6. Number 6: X Pro

Best for: Staying inside X, if you already pay for Premium

X's own dashboard, formerly TweetDeck, schedules posts and follows several timelines at once. It comes with an X Premium subscription and only reaches X.

Common questions

Can you schedule X (Twitter) posts for free?

X's own website can schedule a post from the post box on a computer. Among tools, check what each free plan covers: because X charges apps per post, some leave X out. Optimate includes X in the 14-day free trial (up to 30 X posts) and on every paid plan, but not on Free.

How long can an X post be?

280 characters on a standard account, with every link counted as 23. Optimate counts it X's way as you type and stops a post that is too long before it is queued.

Why do schedulers limit or charge extra for X?

X bills apps for each post published through its API, so every tool has to pay for X somehow. Some cap the number of X posts, some charge per X profile on top of the plan, and some leave X off their free plans. Compare what the X allowance is before you compare headline prices.
