Comparison

Optimate vs Buffer

Buffer is a long-established scheduling tool built around a per-channel price. It is deliberately simple: connect a channel, queue posts, see basic analytics.

We make this comparison as a competitor, so read it with that in mind. Everything below is checked against Buffer’s own published pricing, and the sections where Buffer is the better choice are real ones — not throat-clearing.

Who each one is for

Choose Buffer if…

One person posting to one or two channels who wants the cheapest reliable queue and no other moving parts. At $5 for a single channel, nothing else comes close on price at that size.

Choose Optimate if…

A business or agency running several profiles that wants the content actually written for it, on-brand, rather than a queue to paste finished posts into.

Pricing side by side

Each product is shown in the currency it actually bills in. We deliberately don’t convert these into one currency — the rate moves, and a converted figure would misrepresent what Buffer charges.

Where Buffer is the better choice

These are real limitations of Optimate, not softened ones. If any of them is a dealbreaker for you, Buffer is the right answer.

Cheaper if you only run one or two channels

Buffer's per-channel model means a solo creator with one Instagram account pays $5/month. Optimate's entry paid tier is £29/month. Below about four profiles, Buffer is straightforwardly better value and we would not pretend otherwise.

Sixteen years of reliability

Buffer has been publishing posts since 2010 and has weathered every platform API change in that time. Optimate launched in 2026. If an unbroken track record is the deciding factor, that is a real and rational reason to choose Buffer.

Simplicity as a feature

Buffer does fewer things and is easier to learn because of it. If you already know what you want to post and just need it queued, Optimate's brand kits and AI are overhead you will not use.

Where Optimate is the better choice

The content is written for you

Buffer gives you a queue to fill. Optimate builds a brand kit — voice, audience, colours, rules — and generates on-brand captions and images against it, so the blank-page problem is the thing being solved rather than the thing left to you.

Cost stops scaling with channels

At ten profiles Buffer Team is $100/month and climbing with each account. Optimate Studio is £59/month flat for fifteen. The more accounts you run, the wider that gap gets.

Client separation without an agency price

Optimate Studio handles three clients with separate brand kits at £59/month. Buffer has no equivalent concept — you would be managing channel groups and holding each client's voice in your head.

Common questions

Is Optimate cheaper than Buffer?

It depends entirely on how many profiles you run. Buffer charges per channel, so at one or two channels Buffer is cheaper — $5–$10/month against Optimate's £29. Optimate includes profiles in a flat tier, so from roughly four profiles upwards Optimate costs less, and the gap widens as you add accounts.

Can Optimate import my Buffer queue?

Not automatically. There is no Buffer import today. You would reconnect your accounts to Optimate and rebuild any scheduled queue — worth knowing before you switch if you have a long queue built up.

Does Buffer have AI?

Yes. Buffer includes an AI Assistant for drafting and repurposing posts on all plans. The difference is what it is grounded in: Buffer's assistant works from the prompt you give it, while Optimate generates against a saved brand kit so output stays consistent across posts without re-prompting.
