Why a post failed, and how to retry it

What Optimate does automatically when a platform rejects a post, what the common causes mean, and how to fix and retry.

When a platform turns a post down, Optimate tries again on its own — up to three attempts in all, a few minutes apart. If some platforms took the post and others didn't, only the ones that failed are tried again, so nothing goes out twice.

If it still hasn't gone out, the post shows under Needs attention in Scheduled Posts, and we email you. Each failure is explained in plain English, with the platform's own message under Technical details.

Common causes

  • The connection needs renewing — the platform stopped accepting Optimate's access. Reconnect the account, then retry.
  • Missing media — Instagram and Pinterest need an image; TikTok and YouTube need a video.
  • The caption is too long for the platform.
  • The platform rejected it as a duplicate of a recent post. Change the caption a little, then retry.
  • The platform is limiting how often it accepts posts, or had a problem on its side. Waiting a little and retrying usually works.

Retry a post

  1. Open Scheduled Posts and find the post under Needs attention.
  2. Read why it failed.
  3. If the post itself needs changing, the button says what to fix — for example Add image and retry — and opens it in the composer at the right place.
  4. Otherwise choose Retry. For a post that went to several accounts, each account's line has its own retry.

Frequently asked

Why wasn't my post retried automatically?

If a platform didn't answer in time, the post may have gone out anyway. Retrying automatically could publish it twice, so Optimate stops and asks you to check the platform first. If it isn't there, choose Retry.

My post says Paused, not Failed. What does that mean?

A paused post hasn't failed — it's being held because your plan doesn't cover it right now, for example after a trial ends. It resumes when you upgrade. See What happens when your trial ends.
