Best Later alternatives
Later bundles profiles into social sets and rations AI hard — 5 credits a month on Starter. Those are the two things people leave over. What holds them is the grid preview and the bundled link-in-bio tool, and most alternatives replace neither.
Who wrote this
Optimate publishes this page, so treat it as a vendor's list rather than an independent review. We've tried to earn the read by ranking on fit rather than on who's paying for the page — Optimate isn't first on every list here, and where a competitor is the better answer we say so and link you to them.
How this list is ordered
Ordered by how well each addresses Later's two common complaints — tight AI allowances and per-set pricing — while flagging that visual grid planning and link-in-bio mostly don't survive the move.
Pricing checked 25 August 2026. Tools without a figure are ones we haven’t verified directly — check their site rather than trust a number we didn’t read ourselves.
Number 1: Optimate
Free plan · Pro £29/mo · Studio £59/mo · Agency £135/moBest for: Leaving because 5 AI credits a month isn't a content strategy
Roughly 1,000 captions or 200 images a month on Pro against Later's 5–100 credits, generated against a saved brand kit, with seats unmetered. Two honest gaps: no link-in-bio tool and no Instagram grid preview, both of which Later includes.
Number 2: Buffer
Free plan · from $5/channel/moBest for: Simplicity and per-channel pricing
From $5/channel with a free tier Later doesn't offer. No grid preview and no link-in-bio, but far cheaper if you run a couple of channels.
Number 3: SocialPilot
From $20/mo (5 accounts)Best for: More accounts and far more AI for the money
$20/month for 5 accounts with 500 AI credits, against Later's $25 for one social set with 5 credits. A large step up in allowance.
Number 4: Metricool
Free plan · from €20/moBest for: Leaving Later for analytics depth
Later's reporting is light. Metricool's is the opposite, from €20/month, with competitor benchmarking and a free tier.
Number 5: Canva
Best for: Designing the visuals, with light scheduling attached
Primarily a design tool with a Content Planner bolted on. Most teams use it alongside a scheduler rather than instead of one.
Number 6: Publer
Best for: Cheap bulk scheduling and recycling
Inexpensive, with strong bulk-scheduling and evergreen recycling features. Interface is dense but capable.
Common questions
What replaces Later's link-in-bio tool?
Nothing on this list bundles one, so you'd use Linktree or similar separately. That's a genuine extra cost and worth counting before you switch — it's one of the strongest reasons to stay with Later.
Is there an alternative with an Instagram grid preview?
Not among the tools here. Later's visual grid planning is its distinctive feature and if that's how you plan Instagram, the alternatives are a downgrade regardless of price or AI allowance.
Why do people leave Later?
Usually the AI credit limits — 5 a month on Starter goes nowhere if AI is central to how you produce content — and the social-set model, which bundles eight profiles whether or not you need them and caps users by tier.
