Where Later is the better choice
These are real limitations of Optimate, not softened ones. If any of them is a dealbreaker for you, Later is the right answer.
A link-in-bio tool in the price
Later bundles a link-in-bio page. Optimate has no equivalent, so you'd keep paying for Linktree or similar alongside it. For a creator that's a real line item.
The Instagram grid preview
Later lets you see how a planned feed will look as a grid before it publishes. If you plan Instagram visually — and plenty of brands genuinely do — Optimate's calendar-based planner is not the same thing and won't replace it.
More profiles at the entry price
Later Starter is $25/month for eight profiles. Optimate Pro is £29/month for five. If you need lots of profiles and little AI, Later is better value at the bottom of the range.
Where Optimate is the better choice
AI that isn't five credits a month
Later Starter includes 5 AI credits per month and Scale includes 100. Optimate Pro covers roughly 1,000 captions or 200 images. If AI is doing real work rather than occasional assistance, this is not a close comparison.
Seats aren't metered
Later caps users by tier — 1 on Starter, 4 on Scale — and charges $5/month beyond that. Optimate doesn't meter seats at all, so bringing a colleague in doesn't change the bill.
There's a free tier
Later has no free plan, so evaluating it means paying. Optimate's free tier covers 3 profiles and 5 AI generations indefinitely.
Common questions
Is Optimate a good Later alternative for Instagram?
For content creation, yes — Optimate generates on-brand captions and images where Later mostly helps you arrange content you've already made. For visual grid planning specifically, no: Later's grid preview has no Optimate equivalent, and if that's how you plan Instagram you'd miss it.
Does Optimate have a link-in-bio tool?
No. Later includes one and Optimate does not, so you'd keep whatever you use today. It's a genuine gap rather than something we've deprioritised quietly.
How do Later's social sets compare to Optimate's profiles?
A Later social set bundles up to 8 profiles — one per network. Optimate counts individual profiles, so Pro's 5 profiles and Later Starter's 8 aren't directly comparable. Count the accounts you actually connect and compare on that.
